We Miss You

Ian Curtis was a man of complex emotion. Not one person around him knew at any moment where his thoughts might be. The only thing that was known was his drive and determination to bring Joy Division to stardom. It is for this reason that all around him, friends, family, and business associates alike, where shocked by his suicide. On or about the early morning of May 18th, 1980, Ian Curtis, put a copy of Iggy Pop's "The Idiot" on the record player, wrote his wife a final goodbye, and proceeded to hang himself. Ian left behind a wife and young daughter. Although no one will ever understand why he chose this final exit on the eve of Joy Division's emminent stardom, we do know that he gave everything he had to his band and his music. He voiced the fears, pain, and solitude of his generation, and of generations yet to come. Although we will never know what lay behind his vision or what might have become of the band, or of us, had he not made his fatal choice. We will always remember him and Joy Division. The band holds a place in the heart of everyone who has ever had the pleasure of hearing them. They showed us a vision that has not been forgotten and their story is one that should never be erased.
